The number and the capacity of data centers grows along with the volume of data being transferred and stored. It is expected that monthly data transfer of more than 6 million users is going to exceed 1TB next year. Until recently, an average smartphone user would do with a data tariff of hundreds of megabytes per month, while today we are aiming at tens of gigabytes. Data centers require uninterruptible source of power (with a backup), cooling, security control, firefighting measures, suitable HW and SW incl. redundancy, high-capacity and multiple network infrastructure, incl. data traffic security and control. It is the data traffic security and control that we specialize in.
As data are being transferred to data centers, requirements for their security and availability are increasing. Data access control is a necessity, and the same applies to data security. Server clusters are employed for customer applications, databases and web server hosting. Adequate access must be provided for all applications, based on agreed SLA levels. Powerful Application Delivery Controllers (ADC) make sure that operation is balanced across several servers according to customer’s current needs. Web Application Firewall (WAF) provides secure access to web applications.
Demands on data links are enormous, and the quality of connection and the ability to guarantee required parameters is the key. Applications demand minimum latency while communicating with databases and storage devices, calling for high-availability at the same time. To back up data centers to different sites we need technologies with ultra-low latency, based on xWDM technology and real-time encryption to ensure security.
Technologies employed for this solution are depicted in the data center diagram split to three layers – access, application and storage layers. The access layer provides for secure and balanced access to the application layer.
All input communication is controlled by the IDS/IPS system combined with anomaly detection technology based on the behavioral analysis (NBA). Cleaned data flows are balanced according to current needs of individual applications (ADC); web applications prone to misuse are further secured by means of a specialized firewall (WAF).
Data services delivered across individual layers are evaluated in terms of performance parameters and required SLAs. Data backup at the remote site employs high-throughput DWDM technology with a transparent interface to connect storage systems (FC) and high-speed data links for NAS devices. DWDM connection between data centers is encrypted at the link layer for the sake of data protection.
